Birthmother grief, a type of grief many don’t know at all, yet some know all too well. The author, Cynthia Christensen, trudged through her own grief after the adoption of her son, Joshua. Being a private person, she did not want to do one-on-one counseling so she decided to travel the path with only one counselor, Jesus. Walking alongside Jesus proved to be not only healing but restorative, and life-changing. While counseling at an adoption agency and talking with others whose lives have been touched by adoption, the author recognized that many post adoption birthmothers, birthfathers, or family members never fully recovered from the grief of adoption. Restorative Grief is a Bible study written for the sole purpose of restoring broken hearts and shattered lives, by dealing with the pain of separation that follows the extremely emotional events leading up to the relinquishment of a child. Through her willingness to share the emotional and physical struggles she faced, Cynthia has used her experience to provide a step by step recovery process that will help lead the reader to a full recovery of mind, body and soul through the healing power and love of Jesus Christ. Restorative Grief should leave its readers ready to rise up from the ashes and stand tall, as Daughters of A King!

First of all, I am an adoptive parent, not a birth parent like Cynthia Christensen is. I wanted to read this book because I do have a lot of connections ot the birth parent world (lots of friends)- plus it's always beneficial to know some things about people on the other side of what you're going through. This book is amazing. Absolutely amazing. It is a great "how to" type of book intended to help birth parents cope with the loss and pain of placing a child for adoption. This book is hand in hand with scripture passages from the Bible, showing how and guiding the reader to take steps to overcome their pain by allowing Christ to take an important part in the readers life. I will recommend this book to all birth parents I know because I honestly believe it will be a life changer for them.

Restorative Grief A Guide To Healing From Adoption Cynthia Christensen 9780984260515 Books Reviews
There are few books out there that deal with this specific type of grief. This author has a way of being "there" with the reader during the painful steps to recovery from adoption. Whether it is you or someone you know that has had to face this heartache, this book is a must-have to read over and over throughout the years. It's a smaller book, so the reader can not only get through it in a timely manner, but read straight to the point without being distracted with pages and pages of filler. I highly recommend it!
Super religiously motivated
Well worth your time to not only read but begin your own healing process! Grief is a common denominator for all people, but Cynthia allows such a personal look into her life that you feel as if you're reading a letter from a close, trusted friend. You'll want to share it with your friends, so buy a couple. Great book for those who've never yet dealt with their past, even for those over 70-80 years of age! Seriously.
